ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Joseph Merrick, a Game Designer with over three years of experience specializing in gameplay systems and level design. I have a passion for crafting immersive game experiences, focusing on AI behavior, physics, and animation systems. My educational background includes a BA (Hons) in Game Design from Leeds Beckett University and a Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production (Game Development) from Shipley College.

My design philosophy is rooted in efficiency and player engagement. I excel at developing custom tools in Unity to streamline level design, improving iteration times, and creating dynamic interactions that bring game worlds to life. I have a strong foundation in object-oriented programming (C#) and thrive on building clean, maintainable code for complex mechanics, from AI combat systems to animation-driven gameplay.

Collaboration and iteration are at the heart of my process. Through my solo and group projects, I’ve developed a deep understanding of working with artists, programmers, and designers to achieve cohesive, polished games. My approach combines creative problem-solving with a practical focus on gameplay balance and user experience.

When I’m not developing games, you’ll likely find me exploring new titles, diving into RPGs, or brainstorming ideas for my next project. I’m always open to new challenges and opportunities to grow as a designer.
